How to become an Assessor...

Becoming a certified referee assessor is the fastest way that you can help to improve the quality of officiating in the state of Iowa. With nearly 2000 referees registered in Iowa, we currently only register 35 assessors. Even with the hard work of those currently in the ranks, only 200 assessments are peformed each year in the state, which includes assessments performed on our upper-level officials when they travel out of state for tournaments. Obviously help is needed!

Should you become an assessor there are a number of benefits, one of which is that the Iowa Referee Committee will pay all of your registration fees so long as you complete the required number of assessments each year (currently 5). Besides that however, you will be able to have an immediate and lasting impact on referees in your area in helping them develop, and in many cases with younger referees, it can be such support from an assessor/mentor that keeps them in the program.

Soccer is a sport that should be fun for everyone involved: players, coaches, spectators AND referees. By improving the quality of officiating, we are improving the fun factor for everyone!

Even if you feel assessing is not your thing, you can always choose to simply be a mentor to younger officials!
