First US Soccer Professional Referee Camp

U.S. Soccer held its first ever Professional Referee Camp in Orlando, Florida February 5-8, 2009. In all, 73 individuals from around the United States and Canada were invited to this camp - including approximately 30 referees and 40 assistant referees. US Soccer Professional Referees will officiate MLS, USL1, and International matches as assigned by US Soccer.

Iowa was proud to have 3 of the 73 officials, all 3 as referees, invited to attend this premier camp. Pictured below from left to right: Landis Wiley (Cedar Rapids), Hidajet Tica (Altoona), and Terry Vaughn (Mt. Vernon) represented Iowa as three of the referees who will make up the pool of officials working professional-level matches throughout the United States.

The 4-day clinic consisted of in-class training on points of emphasis for US Soccer, on-field training, and a fitness test.

All three of our "Professional Referees" are products of the FIFA Club mentoring program in Iowa and are hard at work looking to develop the next group of up-and-coming referees. Look for them at the Iowa Referee Academy in March, and on soccer fields near you.
